Care is our beacon in an attitude towards sustainable design.
The floor in the main room is made from the beams of a building that is over 80 years old in Delft. It was recently demolished, but we took the old beams, sawed them, removed the mold, completely restored them and used them as flooring, giving this wood a second life.
Copper bath, 17th century. We purchased it at auction, then restored it and gave it a second life as a washstand.
The fireplace is approximately 80 years old and was found at a flea market. We restored it and now it will delight our guests for many years.
In addition to the fireplace, many pieces of the furniture and decorative attributes (such as chairs, couch, lamps, mirrors, plant pots, candlesticks, etc) that you see every day in Kantoor 1643 were found at auctions, flea markets, or simply bought second-hand. All these things were restored by us and got a new life in the bar.
Many of the tables in the venue are made from scraps/offcuts of marble. Usually, large production facilities throw away these trimmings. We collected them from several manufactories and made beautiful marble countertops, giving a new round of life to these marble scraps.
For the facade and countertop of the bar, we bought an old, abandoned barn made of oak planks. After disassembling it, drying it, processing and restoring the boards, we made from them the bar that you see now in Kantoor 1643
The fabric for some of our couches came from a small family farm in California. This fabric was used as bags for grain and hay. But after these bags become unusable, they are usually thrown away. We put a little effort into upcycling these bags and ended up with beautiful vintage fabric for our sofas.
The one who helped us to bring all our ideas to life is our main furniture contractor Verdi
